Tunable Vibration Absorber Design for a High-Precision Cartesian Robot

In metal sheet processing for automotive application, it is crucial to guarantee high robot dynamics reduced cycle times and adequate components accuracy be competitive in the market. Since two aspects are closely inversely related, problem becomes challenging. After first cutting tests, Cartesian Robot prototype displayed insufficient dimensional when undergoing accelerations. The solution hereby proposed design of a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD), working shear mode, reduce vibration amplitude. To this end, an initial assessment frequency response natural frequencies was performed both by using Finite Element (FE) model machine experimentally. Further, analyses were carried out evaluate TMD effectiveness highlight possible criticalities from manufacturing point view. On numerical level, can damp resonant frequencies, also showing certain grade tunability before operation in-plane orientation insensitiveness thanks use cylindrically shaped springs.
